Teachers
Become Mentors
In
this new model of learning the role of the teacher must evolve from
the traditional "giver of knowledge" to that of facilitator,
enzyme of learning, catalyst - that is, the role of mentor. Mentors
can help eliminate obstacles and they can ask the questions that
help a student develop. The student needs to know that mentors -
a group that evolves over time - are there when the student needs
them. This new role of the teacher will result in a student's self
assessment, improved self confidence, and an enhanced sense of self
potential. Each mentor should play a role beyond the traditional
year; this will help the teacher emerge and remain an important
figure in the life of the child, in spite of the barrage of consumer
/ media hero messages that the child sees as they grow older.
